UHS  CLASS  NEWS

The following news items were submitted by David Beard on December 13, 2000.
Charles Baylor had major neck and back surgery back in November and a couple of days later sustained a heart attack. It was determined he needed by-pass surgery but they couldn't do it for the longest because he kept having infections. They finally got it done on Monday, December 11th, 4 bypasses and he came through it just fine, better than his doctor expected. (2/14/01 update) Following his release from Presbyterian Hospital of Plano (Texas), he and Margie are staying with her son, Greg, in the metroplex area because Charles cannot negotiate the steps up into their motor home (yet). He can walk anywhere he wants with his walker. He will return to the hospital regularly for continued physical therapy...outpatient. Margie's cell phone number is 813-505-2511 if anyone wants to call her.

Many of us have wondered over the years about Virginia (Ginger) Denmark who left UHS after our freshman year. I received a call from her a couple of weeks ago. She's in Channelview, near Houston. Her last name is Martin and she is listed as Ginger Martin in the phone book for anyone who would like to contact her. She's got 4 grown kids and I think she said 9 grandkids..

Pat McCrea Pope gave me Loralee Crockett Brunelle's e-mail address; They both graduated with us in 1957. Pat is still in Uvalde and Loralee is in California. Loralee's e-mail address is Llbkitty1@aol.com.

Several of us have wondered about Charlene Gray; no one has seen nor heard from her for years and years. I have asked the Leader-News for info on how to put in an article asking any reader if they know where she is and how to reach her. I will do that when I hear back from them.

Here's news from Chuck (Charles) Simpson received January 26, 2001, with some before and after photos. The first is Chuck with Barbara Black and Mary Louise Fitch and the second is a current one of Chuck and an interesting lady.

Alice Toombs Hicks and Lamar now have e-mail. Their address is ahicks@mymailstation.com

Barbara Arthur Lowrance's mailing address is 5777 Indian Springs, Livingston, TX 77351.

Hazel Stitts Baylor tells me there's a big fund-raiser going on at Uvalde to build a replica of the ole West Main School. If you would like to support the project, send your donation to El Progresso Memorial Museum and Library, 129 W. Nopal, Uvalde, 78801. Make checks payable to West Main Project. You can also contact Nancy Horner Feely, Co-Chair, at 129 W. Nopal St., Uvalde 78801. The original property has been donated by Sue and Louie Capt. The Ross Doughtys very generously donated $200,000 and the Briscoes have given a significant amount in Janey's honor. Total cost is anticipated to be $5 million.

Dick and Sharon Smith have just told us about the birth of their new grandson, Christopher Blair Herrod, weighing in at 11 pounds and doing well. Dick also said that he, his sister and brother, are going to donate to the West Main Project in their dad's name since he served on the school board for many years.

Just got an E-mail from David Beard about classes joining together to contribute to the West Main Project. I think this is a great idea!! I have already earmarked all my memorials to the library to go to this fund and purchased a bunch of bricks also. It might be good for you to put something on the reunion page asking each class to contribute and specify their class so that we will each have a tile.
